Title: Re: [KCMUG] Pro bono help needed for local group
EGGZACKLY!

Well put, Denise! You get it completely!

Thanks for your feedback!

I posted this information both to the KCMUG group and the KCFusion group. There were some positive and negative feedback regarding my sharing this information. Folks, I don't feel it is my place to control and censor what kind of work for who gets posted in the groups to which I belong. If we all decided to censor, the next thing you know, we'll all be roasting marshmallows over a book-burning bonfire. (Take another look at the movie "Pleasantville".)

Work is work, and I always want to know about it no matter who is writing the check or getting me to the person who writes the check.

So far, my day has been great but let the emails fly...

Charmain has often put opportunities out that she knows about to this group.  This seemed to be another she had access to.  I appreciate the many offers this group has brought to my attention.  It seems entirely appropriate to help the members of this group.

So, delete it and go on with your day like you do with other mail you get throughout the day that you are not interested in.

So...If you are a Republican, would you work for a Democratic group?  Is this more of an ethical/moral question that should be decided by the individual?  There was an opportunity a while back at 3 Dog Bakery.  In their want ad, they discussed the "paw"ticulars of the job  and I got a "feel" for the kind of store they were.  Information I want to know about a company if I am thinking about working for them. I am a cat person.  Should I apply?  Are my talents in question even if I like cats better than dogs?  Do I think they will convert me to a dog person?  Could I do the job, gain experience and contacts, and not be tempted by the dog world?    As I never even applied for the job, I'll never know but it is something to ponder.

Just another thought,
Denise

If you are interested in doing some pro bono work for the Democratic Grassroots in Kansas and Missouri, they are needing help. Mark Logan of LookandFeel New Media Design heads the team for all of this. Please read the following:

Building the Democratic Grassroots
in Kansas and Missouri

Calling Democratic Web Designers!

The requests are lining up fast.  I need help!   These projects aren't very complex, mostly straight HTML, so if you have a few hours to spare, I hope you'll help out.  Here's the list so far.

Pete Roman - I sent out info on him last week.  Pete's running for the KS Senate.  He's a very nice guy, an experienced candidate and a strong advocate for public education.  I hope someone will pick this one up.

Michael Boatright - Another KS Senate candidate.  Someone should jump all over this one.  Mike's running against Kay O'Connor, the Republican KS Senator who says that women shouldn't be allowed to vote!

And here's an outlier:

Rob MacKenna - Rob is a buddy of mine from Duke and a leader of the Dean campaign in Florida.  A Dean-inpsired candidate, Rob has decided to run for county election commissioner under the theme of "Make Sure Your Vote Counts."  Rob doesn't need an entire site, he's just looking for an animated GIF to use as a blog ad.

Please let me know if you have time or interest in working on any of these projects.

Thanks,
Mark Logan
