My company is evaluating software vendors for a new internal CRM system.
We want to integrate the data in this system with our Web site so
customers have real-time access to their information and can make
instantaneous updates via the Web, not to mention purchase products,
register for meetings and classes and have all of that appear in their
record in the CRM.

The two companies we're evaluating are both running on an ASP.NET
platform using SQL Server. We have a ColdFusion site using SQL Server
and on a shared hosting plan with a company in Arizona.

The first company, the more expensive one, assures us we'll have
real-time data transfer and credit card verfication using XML Web
services and an API that will just plug into our site in the areas that
need it. I'm assuming I would just use a CFINVOKE to invoke the Web
service (I've never used Web services with ColdFusion before, but I've
read up on it a bit and will need to learn).

The other company, the less expensive one, tells us that we'll have to
write our data on the Web site to a text file and do

My question: Why, if the two companies' platforms are the same, can't we
use XML Web services for real-time data transfer with company B? Isn't
it simply a matter of creating the Web service for use with an ODBC
database, in this case SQL Server?

Has anyone had to solve a similar issue like this? Any help and advice
you can offer is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!,Shawna, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
