I imagine you would mask in order to minimize hacking attempts, not give
competitors an easy way to know your software architecture, and to hide your
face from public ridicule.

However, I know of a large company in town with a rogue group doing a big CF
project.  Because CF isn't a 'standard', they chose to 'hide' the fact they
were using CF until the project was done (and may still be hiding it).  They
setup all of their .cfm files as an alternate extension and no one is the
wiser.

In the case of Rick asking, I imagine that is partly done to make the site
look more 'custom'.
