Hi David,
This problem does not happen generally, as far as I know, so it must be
something peculiar to your system. * Does it also happen if you zoom in/out
with the mouse scrollwheel or the keyboard zoom shortcuts?
* Do you have opengl enabled (and if so, is your driver the latest version?)
* Does it also happen for you if you switch opengl on/off?
