I haven't had the time to do any more testing, but from the testing I did memory use seemed to increase more steadily in between the larger spikes. I was just looking at the values though, so I might be wrong. I'll see if I can figure out how to use that heaptrack tool to visualize it. One possible difference is the Nvidia driver, I'm not using the nvidia-open driver because it's not supported, at least not on the 1080 Ti.
