Bug ID: 514930
Summary: Changing Repository values such as Origin causes
Discover to crash on installing an app and show an
error after running `apt get update` behind the scenes
Classification: Applications
Product: Discover
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: discover
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
I was trying to install an application with a failing but very recoverable
`sudo apt update` issue.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE error dialog
1. Have a repository change some settings that have to be manually accepted by
user (Such as changing 'Origin')
2. Open Discover
STEPS TO REPRODUCE corollary issue
1. Finish above
2. Try to install Libreoffice in my case from flathub
OBSERVED RESULT
See an error like `E: Repository
'https://www.synaptics.com/sites/default/files/Ubuntu stable InRelease' changed
its 'Origin' value from '' to 'Synaptics Inc'`
corollary
Discover crashes when the install Task is at 99%
EXPECTED RESULT
I personally expected nothing, but after seeing the issue I expected Discover
to allow me to accept the changes from Synaptics. That is give me a quick
warning dialog with "Accept" or "Deny"
E: Repository 'https://www.synaptics.com/sites/default/files/Ubuntu stable
InRelease' changed its 'Origin' value from '' to 'Synaptics Inc'
N: This must be accepted explicitly before updates for this repository can be
applied. See apt-secure(8) manpage for details.
Do you want to accept these changes and continue updating from this repository?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I already fixed it myself but I can see how this can throw a non-tech person
off. I'm pretty sure this is not a frequent bug since you have to add a PPA and
the provider to actually do something with it (like Synaptics). Nice to have on
file though.
