with wrong PIN / pin mismatch
Classification: Applications
Product: kdeconnect
Version First 25.12.1
Reported In:
Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux

SUMMARY
This is a security issue. When pairing my PC with BT and the PocoX7 pro you get
perfectly normal procedure and operation. You see the device, you pair the
device, the key pops up, as expected the key corresponds to what the device
says. End of story.
With KDE connect you have first to pair the device with BT. Otherwise it will
not see the bluetooth device to be paired. The BT is active, visible and if the
device is not paired at all, KDE connect will not see it or propose pairing.
Once you have connected via BT stack and given trust (see above) you do see the
device in KDE connect in the list of BT devices to be paired. But when the pop
up with the key comes up, the surprise is: the two key do not correspond at
all. Hence you cannot pair because it would be an issue and you do not know why
this happens.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download the app from fdroid on your phone. Install from repo in TW.
2. try to pair from Smartphone when not paired, BT device not seen. Pair then
try: can now ask for association Pop up of key in TW is done but the key of
pairing is totally wrong. And if you pair nonetheless the key is wrong, then
you can use KDE connect apparently normally. But this is a security issue, as
the pairing key does not correspond. You actually do not know with what app or
software you did actually pair your device.
3.
OBSERVED RESULT
device is not seen if not already associated. Device seen but pairing with
wrong key when already associated.
EXPECTED RESULT
Device should be seen if set visible. Device should pair with the right pairing
key.
