Note: I observed that when an app is maximized, if the normal wallpaper (not the lock screen but the desktop) is also live, it stops until the desktop can be seen (by peeking at desktop or minimizing etc.). I don't know the inner mechanics but I assume there is optimization going on with stopping the playback when the desktop is not seen.
