There are several ways to prevent a program from being started multiple times.
For example, a lock file, as the Chrome browser does. The disadvantage of this
is that if the program crashes, these lock files are not removed, and the
program won't restart.
And yes, some users run two instances of digiKam with different configurations
so they can work on different collections.
