--- Comment #22 from Ben Opp <[email protected]> ---
Just wanted to chime in because I'm not entirely sure it's been explicitly
mentioned so far.
" What exactly is the problem if the tooltip appears when you hover any part of
the row? *why* is it annoying? Is it because it covers up something else that
you would want to look at or click on?"

Yes, it covers *the exact file name that I'm hovering over*, which brought me
to this bug, but the discussion seems to revolve mostly around the size of the
tooltip. I'm guess it's rather about the combination of its size and the
*position*. While I do find the tooltip pretty oversized in some instances,
that's mostly okay because it's not always covering something I want to see.
Trying to point at various things in Dolphin, the tooltip is sometimes
positioned above, sometimes below the mouse pointer. The above-positioned
tooltip never seems to cover the file name I'm pointing at, only if the
intended position is below AND it's too big to display completely in that
space. However, that is a case that happens a lot for me, because I tend to
position the thing that I'm working on roughly in the middle of the screen's
y-axis - and that's the area where Dolphin typically wants to display the
tooltip *below* the mouse pointer. When it's too big to fit there (quite
often), Dolphin apparently moves it up a bit, showing the entire tooltip, and
covering the file that I was hovering over and wanted to click.
That means, for all the files in that area of screen, you have to be very
quick to click them and mustn't pause to hover over them first, because you
will be thwarted by that tooltip. That is what's annoying.
