Bad scaled UI in system with 300% scaling
SUMMARY
Buttons have too much padding, they are big, yet unable to render any label
fully. Specifically it looks wrong at right and left sidebars - with "Albums",
"Tags" etc buttons to the left and Properties, Metadata to the right. These
sidebars are too wide.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Digikam in system with resolution 2560x1600 and 200% scaling in system
settings.
OBSERVED RESULT
Sidebars are too wide, with a lot of empty unused space. Thumbnails are bigger
then they intended to be (I like this side effect actually). Text size is good
and readable across entire application.
EXPECTED RESULT
Buttons in sidebars have optimal width and height as to fit a label with
current font. Digikam looks same way as on official screenshots even though it
is started in 2560x1600 200% scaling.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 25.10
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.17.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel Version: 6.17.0-19-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I think Digikam looked like that on 4k 300% scaling as well. Sidebars are
clumsy, but thumbnails are big and nice, so I actually was using it like that a
lot. But when you start application, it does look wrong. Not only useful space
is taken by padding of buttons, but labels on buttons also usually not
readable. Also it mismatches to what I see in screenshots across the web.
I've tried using `QT_SCALE_FACTOR = 0.75` and font size = 18 instead of default
10, sidebars were good, but text was too small, also text in thumbnails pane
(file name etc) remained even smaller. So, there are at least two places to
change font size. I've returned to original default bad scaling with big
padding, big thumbnails and readable text.
I've tried to launch Digikam with 1280x800 resolution and it looks like on
official screenshots.
