It also affects network-mounted shares, and I can confirm this issue doesn't happen on older Plasma releases. On the latest releases, thumbnails load inconsistently, and you have to refresh with F5 for the thumbnails to properly load, and sometimes using F5 doesn't work; you sometimes have to keep refreshing until the thumbnail eventually shows.
