Bug ID: 521313
Summary: On kwin wayland when two monitors with different
refresh rates attached moving, resizing and scrolling
on everything stutters and falls back to the lowest
refresh rate
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.6.5
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: wayland-generic
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
I have my three monitors, one is 60hz, second one is 60hz and the third one is
144hz. I went away from x11 to wayland because the entire compositor was
rendering on 60fps and i heard that on wayland its better, it was better for a
year and now its happening again but this time on wayland. Moving the windows
feels like 144hz but then suddenly can feel like 60hz and after some time back
to 144hz and repeat. Its also visible in any program for ex. scrolling through
chrome or dolphin. Even when that drop to 60hz appears, Kwins fps chart still
shows 144fps with no stutters on the chart. I also saw that its only happening
on my nvidia desktop, on AMD laptop its not doing that. Games are not affected.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect one 240/144/120hz monitor to an nvidia GPU
2. Connect one 60hz monitor to an nvidia GPU
3. Resize/Move any windows
OBSERVED RESULT
Stutters when moving windows and "feels-like" 60hz on a 144hz display.
EXPECTED RESULT
Smooth expierience
