Bug ID: 521401
Summary: When using NVIDIA graphics, some KDE games that use
OpenGL are unable to render scenes
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.6.5
Reported In:
Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: wayland-generic
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
The Roxdoku puzzles of KSudoku, and the Kubrick game, both are unable to render
their game scenes when running under kwin_wayland with NVIDIA graphics. They
are able to render game scenes when run through XWayland, and when running
under kwin_wayland with Intel graphics. The bug occurs on diverse hardware (an
RTX 4070 laptop, and an RTX 2060 laptop), and occurs whether you are using a
native package or Flatpak of the affected games.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Get a machine with an NVIDIA graphics card supported by recent drivers.
2. Ensure KWin is configured to use the NVIDIA graphics card as the primary
rendering device. (You may need to add something like `export
KWIN_DRM_DEVICES="/dev/dri/card2:/dev/dri/card1"` to
`/etc/profile.d/00-nvidia.sh`, then log out and log back in, to make this work
if you are on a machine with both Intel and NVIDIA GPUs.)
3. Install a version of KSudoku that includes the 3d Roxdoku puzzles. (The
Flatpak of KSudoku does not seem to include these puzzles.)
4. Open KSudoku, then double-click on "Roxdoku 9".
5. Observe that the game view is a solid black screen, rather than a
cube-shaped arrangement of number cubes.
6. Close KSudoku.
7. Install Kubrick. (The Flatpak version of Kubrick can be used for this test.)
8. Launch Kurbick.
9. Observe that the game view is a solid purple screen, rather than a colored
background with rubik's cube-like puzzles spinning around.
OBSERVED RESULT
Blank games views are shown after launching each respective game.
EXPECTED RESULT
Playable game views should be rendered.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Kubuntu 26.04 LTS
