Bug ID: 521608
Summary: Okular prints gibberish on certain PDF documents
Classification: Applications
Product: okular
Version First 26.04.0
Reported In:
Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: printing
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
I tried to print a PDF file from Okular. The printer printed 1 page saying
"Unsupported PDF data for Direct Print 1000" followed by over 50 pages of
gibberish before I realised what was happening and forced the printer off. I
think the fault lies on the Okular side because the "Unsupported PDF data..."
message was in a typeface similar to the document I was trying to print,
whereas the gibberish was in a fixed-width font. If it were a printer driver
issue, I don't understand why the printer would switch fonts after printing an
error message.
I sort of managed to get the first page of the document printed properly, but
could not do more than that.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
I can't provide the document because it's copyright protected, but I can
probably extract the PDF metadata and restrictions if you tell me what to look
for (and point me to how to find it).
OBSERVED RESULT
>50 pages of gibberish, none of which were the content of my PDF file.
EXPECTED RESULT
Not >50 pages of gibberish. Alternatively, Okteta detecting that there was a
problem with the PDF and not sending it to printer.
