            Bug ID: 521656
Summary: Mounting LUKS-encrypted disks sometimes requires the
root password in addition to the encryption password
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.6.5
       Reported In:
          Platform: openSUSE
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: 1.0

DESCRIPTION

Attaching multiple LUKS-encrypted disks usually results in one disk requiring
the root password to mount in addition to the disk's encryption password. This
is not the same as bug 467098.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Attach four LUKS-encrypted disks simultaneously (my disks are USB HDD's, a
mix of Seagate and WD 5 TB drives). All external disks are set to always
automount. In this case, the disk's passwords are saved in the wallet, but
there's still a prompt for the password (which is filled in). That part
constitutes 467098, which as noted is distinct from this.
2. Click through all four of the disks.

OBSERVED RESULT

One of the disks will not actually mount, and results in a prompt for the root
password to mount. The actual disk that triggers this differs from run to run
with no clear patttern. It is not tied to a particular port, either (I tried
isolating the individual disks and ports). Attaching one disk at a time and
providing its password with a delay between each drive may not result in this
happening, but if they are all attched in a short period of time this almost
always reproduces. From my earlier comment in 467098:

In this case, all of the drives are external. I currently have 4 of the drives
attached. All four of the drives are the same model (Seagate
ST5000LM000-2U8170, firmware revision 0001). The devices are attached by USB
as follows (I don't know which connection is the "bad" one):

Bus 004 Device 005: ID 0bc2:2344 Seagate RSS LLC Portable
Bus 004 Device 006: ID 0bc2:2344 Seagate RSS LLC Portable
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 0bc2:2344 Seagate RSS LLC Portable
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0bc2:2344 Seagate RSS LLC Portable

They are all listed in device automount as "on login" and "on attach".

The pattern is not so simple. It is not one particular drive, nor is it one
particular USB port, nor is it every fourth attach. When I attach all four
drives at once, I almost always get one where it asks for a password to mount
the drive, but I don't think I've ever had it ask for more than one.

EXPECTED RESULT

All four disks should mount after the LUKS container is opened, with no further
intervention.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): openSUSE Leap 16.0 (this happened with various 15.x versions,
too).
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.5 (again, this happened with earlier versions)
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.26.0
Qt Version: 6.11.0

Hardware, in case it matters, is AMD Ryzen 9950X with 64 GiB RAM. Motherboard
is MSI MPT X870E Carbon WIFI. I'm using both front and rear panel USB-A ports
(the drives are micro B).
