            Bug ID: 522083
Summary: Add explicit “Send clipboard” action in device context
                    menu (manual clipboard push)
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kdeconnect
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Debian stable
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: desktop-application
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION

Currently KDE Connect provides clipboard synchronization between paired
devices, but the behavior is largely automatic and not reliably controllable
from the user side.

This leads to two main usability issues:

1. Clipboard content is sometimes sent automatically without explicit user
intent.
2. At other times, clipboard content is not sent when expected.
3. There is no consistent, discoverable manual action to explicitly push the
current clipboard to a selected paired device.

This makes clipboard sharing unpredictable and can lead to accidental
transmission of sensitive data (e.g. passwords or temporary tokens), or
conversely, failure to transfer intended content.

PROPOSED FEATURE

Add a manual “Send clipboard” action directly in the UI for each paired device.

Location:
- In the device context menu (right-click / device actions menu in KDE Connect
applet)
- Optional: also in system tray / Plasma widget device submenu

Behavior:
- User explicitly selects a device
- Clicks “Send clipboard”
- Current clipboard content is sent immediately to that device
- No background or automatic sending is required for this action

OPTIONAL ENHANCEMENTS (NICE TO HAVE)

Add a keyboard shortcut for “Send clipboard to last used device”
Option to disable automatic clipboard sync while keeping manual send enabled
Optional confirmation dialog toggle for sensitive environments

MOTIVATION

Many users prefer deterministic and explicit control over clipboard sharing
instead of implicit background synchronization. A manual action would:

- Improve predictability
- Reduce accidental data leakage
- Make behavior consistent across sessions and environments
- Better align with user expectations for security-sensitive workflows

CURRENT WORKAROUND

Currently users must rely on:
- automatic clipboard sync (unreliable and uncontrollable), or
- disabling clipboard plugin entirely (losing functionality)

Neither provides a good balance between usability and control.

SUMMARY

This feature would introduce a simple, explicit and reliable way to send
clipboard content to a selected device, without relying on background
synchronization behavior.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Debian 13 Trixie, stable, 6.12.90+deb13.1-amd64. X11, KDE Plasma v6.3.6.
KDE Connect v25.04.2.
