DESCRIPTION
On Fedora Rawhide, with the fresh installation of Fedora KDE Plasma (20260630),
the login prompt in the KDE login manager started to behave
non-deterministically. The installation uses US English locales and US English
keyboard layout, however I have spotted the following behaviour:
1. When typing a password that ends in "a", a character selector appears with
suggestions of accented letter that allows replacing the last "a" with its
accented version upon pressing a number, or selecting it with a mouse. This
does not appear on any other vowel, e.g. e, o, and u, which also have accented
variants in UEFI. It also does not appear all the time, but often enough to be
bugreport-worthy.
2. When it appears, it eats the focus from the field, so when users do not pay
any attention to it and they just want to proceed by pressing Enter, the key
does not do anything because the focus is in the character selector. To work
around it, one has to press Escape (to get rid of the selector) or use the
mouse to make a click on the > symbol to log in.
3. I am confused why someone would be using accented passwords, especially on a
US layout, but I somehow feel this is an accessibility attempt gone wrong (or
perhaps a touch screen mode mingling with it). Anyway, this should behave in a
straightforward way.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install the above mentioned ISO.
2. Try to log in and out for a couple of times using a password that ends in
"a", such as "fedora", or "kelpia".
3. Repeat until you have seen the selector.
OBSERVED RESULT
See above.
EXPECTED RESULT
No selector unless wished for, or it should not steal the focus.
