--- Comment #16 from David Wild <[email protected]> --- 1. The UI should clearly and visually separate apps from non-app items if you want to stick with the app store concept. Currently if there are updates to libStrangeName, they appear on the Updates page alongside actual app updates. This is a real UX problem. The single "System Updates" section is, IMO, a step in the right direction. For the online updates I would use something similar to Ubuntu's Software Updater: an expandable list view *without* large icons, using simple checkboxes and a clear separation between system updates and app updates. For example, there could be an "App Updates" node and a "System Updates" node. In any case, they should not be mixed together. System component names are boring and may look scary to some, and there is no need for those big icons. 1.1 The bug I mentioned is that these updates are also visible on the Installed page, so a user suddenly has 120 installed apps instead of 100. There is a discussion about this on a Kubuntu Work Item page regarding the Firefox PPA case. This adds another layer of confusion to the generic UX problem. 2. I 've been experimenting with this, and now I have apps with .desktop files appearing in Discover! However, I don't think this will ever be accepted. The patch would be very extensive and still has some side effects. 3. The actual issue "Installed page doesn't list app installed from local package until you search for it" could be a synchronization problem. I encountered this while experimenting, where some items were added to the list too late. However, this is an old issue, and the current code guards against it very well. Because of that I believe this bug can be closed if nobody is able to reproduce it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
