I can't reproduce this issue on KDE Linux, which is currently Arch-based. I
made sure to use actually good speakers that are capable of producing good
sound capable of being noticed when it degrades. That suggests the problem is
caused by our versions of the packages in the audio stack differing, or our
configurations differing.

It also strongly suggests that there's no problem with the KDE code here; I'd
recommend reporting it upstream. Thanks a lot!
