Thanks for the suggestion. There's already a context menu option to kill tasks 
in the Applications tab of System Monitor

For instance, if I have multiple Dolphin or Firefox windows open and the app
appears to hang I can 
Go to the Applications tab
Right click on Dolphin / Firefox, click Send Signal and choose Kill (KILL).
