This issue (or a closely related variation of it) still appears to be present
in Plasma 6 / Gwenview.

While MR #49 aimed to limit concurrent image processing, a similar
Out-Of-Memory (OOM) and heavy swap storm can still be triggered by opening a
directory containing a single very large video file (e.g., an 8 GB stream
recording) if its index (`moov` atom) is located at the end of the file.
Gwenview/`kioworker` attempts to parse and buffer massive portions of the video
file to generate a thumbnail, exhausting system memory.

I have opened a new, detailed bug report tracking this specific
video-thumbnailing OOM behavior here: #523045 .
