DESCRIPTION
Keyboard shortcuts which are more or less reserved in windows (Alt-whatever)
are permitted for assignment, but they tend to fail or generate messages about
ambiguous commands in Digikam where there are no conflicts
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In Tag manager, select some tag, and assign Alt-U.
2. It will permit this, with no warning about ambiguity
3. In the thumbnail view, select any thumbnail and hit Alt-U. Nothing happens.
Hit it again, and you get the Ambiguous Shortcut error. Check the list for
conflicts, and it doesnt exists (unless you created another instance already
etc).
OBSERVED RESULT
System is inconsistent. Where many keys- even ones Windows tends to like to see
as reserved for compliant applications (Ctrl-C etc) may work, or not. Alt-U
fails on my machine, where Alt=B is fine. Alt-N doesnt show as assigned on my
system, but selecting it in the Thumbnail view (with image selected) simply
sets focus on the Information tab. And maybe that is built in as a hotkey (I
dont see an underline on n in the Information label), but still- it behaves as
such.
EXPECTED RESULT
System should be consistent, or reserved keys/combos should throw an error at
time of creation.
It may make sense to limit the use of Alt based shorts like Alt-U, as Windows
seems to intercept that, and nothing happens first try and on the second I get
an ambiguous shortcut error. Unfortunately, there are just a lot of Alt, Cttl,
and even combos with Ctrl/Alt/Shift that are tied into these operating systems.
It might make more sense to run at a higher level, where maybe you could have a
favorites shortcuts list.
You have a Recent Tags window, which is helpful, but its not a great option if
you are switching flows- the reason you have an option to save/restore a
shortcuts scheme.
