Bug ID: 524777
Summary: file and folder labels in dolphin since 26.08 are
either way too narrow or way too wide
Classification: Applications
Product: dolphin
Version First 26.08.0
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: view-engine: icons mode
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
Since updating to dolphin from 26.04.* to 26.08.0 the label width of files and
folders was drastically changed. Unfortunately the new "medium" setting is way
too narrow, so most filenames are cut off and are basically illegible, and
upping this to large makes it so wide that there is a whole lot of wasted
whitespace. An in-between setting would be nice, close to what we had with
26.04 which was perfect.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update dolphin from 26.04.* to 26.08.*
2. Experiment with label width in the icon mode settings
3. Note that there is no decent setting that keeps filenames legible while not
wasting a whole lot of screen estate
OBSERVED RESULT
File and folder names are either cut off down to the point of being illegible
and useless, or there is a massive gap in between files and folders
EXPECTED RESULT
A setting that is a compromise, similar to what 26.04 offered
