DESCRIPTION
When browsing the Artists view, albums for a given artist are currently not
sorted by release year. It would be very useful to have an option to order
albums chronologically (oldest to newest, or newest to oldest) within each
artist, similar to what most other music players/services offer as "Artist /
Year" sorting.
This seems related to Elisa's broader sorting-model limitations already
reported:
Bug 407964 / 499491 – "Option to sort by Album Artist" / "Add the ability to
group and/or sort by Album Artist" (499491 marked as duplicate of 407964)
Bug 490164 – "Sorting tracks in Tracks view by album does not sort the tracks
in each album by track number" (secondary sort is broken/inconsistent)
Bug 449885 – "Sorting of tracks within album in track listing does not respect
track number"
These reports suggest the underlying multi-level sorting model
(primary/secondary sort keys across the album/artist/track hierarchy) has known
issues, which may be why a seemingly simple "artist → year → album" grouping
hasn't been implemented yet.
Expected result: An option in the Artists view (or in the sort menu) to order
each artist's albums by release year.
