Currently, the default Plasma Clipboard widget (Klipper) provides a highly
reliable but basic vertical list of recent history. Compared to modern
third-party clipboard managers, it lacks organizational features and metadata
display that would greatly benefit power users and developers who manage
diverse snippets of code, links, and images daily.
I would like to propose a few UX/UI enhancements for the Clipboard widget:
1. Categorization and Tagging
Allow users to create custom categories or tags (e.g., "Work", "Code Snippets",
"Personal") to save and organize frequently used clips, rather than relying
solely on a single, volatile history list.
2. Rich Metadata Display
Enhance the list items by displaying useful metadata at a glance:
Relative Timestamps: Show when the item was copied (e.g., "10 mins ago", "2
hours ago").
Content Type Indicators: Add small icons indicating whether the clip is Plain
Text, a URL/Link, or an Image.
Size Metrics: Display the character count for text/code snippets and resolution
(e.g., 1920x1080) for images.
3. Optional Grid/Card Layout
Introduce an alternative Grid or Masonry layout option. A card-based UI would
make much better use of screen real estate on modern widescreen monitors
compared to the current single-column vertical list.
Use Case:
For users who constantly switch between terminal commands, coding environments,
and web research, having visually distinct, categorized, and metadata-rich
clipboard entries significantly reduces the time spent searching for the right
snippet.
