            Bug ID: 526198
           Summary: Provide macOS-native import facility
    Classification: Applications
           Product: digikam
      Version First 9.1.0
       Reported In:
          Platform: macOS (DMG)
                OS: macOS
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Import-Gphoto2
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION
Gphoto2 import works only intermittently on macOS because macOS has its own
image import system, ImageCaptureCore, which will eventually start ptpcamerad
and grab the port. Once it does so, it is not clear to me how to get it to
release the port; telling launchctl to stop ptpcamerad does not work because it
is protected by macOS System Integrity Protection. If one attempts this from
within Digikam, sometimes one gets an error and sometimes one gets a crash.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect a USB PTP device, a camera or smartphone.
2. Start the macOS Image Capture app; select the device.
3. Run "gphoto2 --summary".

OBSERVED RESULT
Message:
An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not claim the USB device'):
Could not claim interface 0 (No such file
or directory). Make sure no other program (MacOS PTPCamera service) or
kernel module (such as sdc2xx, stv680,
spca50x) is using the device and you have read/write access to the device.
*** Error (-53: 'Could not claim the USB device') ***

EXPECTED RESULT
    A gphoto2 summary.
