Bug ID: 526643
Summary: Duplicates search returns similar items already
members of a grouped set of images, and the group
isnnt treated as a group.
Classification: Applications
Product: digikam
Version First 9.2.0

Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: Searches-Similarity

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
If you have a group of images- and these may be similar, they will typically
show up in the find duplicates search as independent elements of a family of
similar images. If these are all part of a group, or some are, you will have a
parent image with a number value on it (i.e. 14). And you may see, say, 7
images in this similarity entry. its not possible from the display to determine
if these images are part of the parent group. Where normally you can collapse a
group displayed as elements by clicking on the parent's numerical reference to
group count, here that will actually expand the group to include members which
are not already matched as similar, but a collapse doesnt work. it expands, and
thats it. So you dont have much ability to determine group membership here,
where you may have already decided (as part of creating a group) that similar
images are part of a group/sequence you want to keep, or evaluate later etc
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. As explained, in a folder find a set of images that are similar enough to be
classified as duplicates
2. Group those images
3. Run the Similarity/Duplicate finder. Click on the parent image group count
to collapse the group and show images not part of the group. Nothing happens.
If the group contains images which are not part of the similarity search, those
are shown as a function of clicking that index count, but clicking it again
does not collapse the group or remove those non-duplicate-related images from
the duplicate window...
OBSERVED RESULT
The group will show up as a sequence of potential duplicates.
EXPECTED RESULT
The group mechanism in the normal context would permit a click on the parent to
collapse members under the parent. This is necessary to prevent deletion of
images which may be a sequence of related images you by definition selected to
group. Clicking on the index number should expand or contract images, but in
the context of similarity search, the system probably should not expand all
members (i.e those which dont share similarity with the active index under the
Duplicates tab list entry). And if that isnt avoidable (nested filtering), it
shoult at the least be possible to remove them from the match list by clicking
on the index number again.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It would be helpful if matching 'similar' images would be stacked as a group of
images when they are already assigend to a group. in fact, you can drag simlar
images into a parent to create a group- which ironically is a helpful way to
group images from a larger group. Regardless, grouping them here doesnt
collapse them into a group stack, and there is no way to determine from the
display of a group parent IF the other images shown as potential duplicates are
members of that group, or another group. It would be helpful if the
open/collapse behavior of groups in the Album view worked here. Expand works,
but contract doesnt. And that is problematic, because it can expand into a
group of similar images matches which arent particular similar- and you cannot
collapse the group. The only way to remove the expanded group members is to
leave that index entry and come back (perhaps there is a refresh, I dont know).
Still, the expansion can easily lead to confusion.
