            Bug ID: 526647
Summary: SMS sync drops conversations on GrapheneOS —
CursorWindow column -1 error in SMSHelper
    Classification: Applications
           Product: kdeconnect
      Version First unspecified
       Reported In:
          Platform: Android
                OS: Android 17.x
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: android-application
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected]
  Target Milestone: ---

DESCRIPTION

KDE Connect SMS app on the desktop shows only a subset of conversations (4 of
~12) when synced from a GrapheneOS device. The system Messaging app on the
phone shows all conversations correctly. The issue is reproducible across
multiple restarts of both the phone app and the desktop daemon.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Pair a GrapheneOS device with a desktop via KDE Connect (SMS plugin enabled
on both sides)
2. Have multiple SMS conversations in the system Messaging app on the phone
3. Open the KDE Connect SMS app on the desktop

OBSERVED RESULT

Only 4 conversations appear. The rest are missing.

Phone log (GrapheneOS Log Viewer → Apps → KDE Connect → View logs) shows
repeated errors during sync:

E CursorWindow: Failed to read row 0, column 4294967295 from a window with 19
rows, 8 columns
E CursorWindow: Failed to read row 0, column 4294967295 from a window with 15
rows, 8 columns
E CursorWindow: Failed to read row 0, column 4294967295 from a window with 1
rows, 8 columns
E CursorWindow: Failed to read row 0, column 4294967295 from a window with 5
rows, 8 columns

Column 4294967295 is -1 as unsigned int, indicating getColumnIndex() returned
-1 — the column KDE Connect's SMSHelper is requesting does not exist in
GrapheneOS's Messaging content provider schema. Conversations where the row
read fails appear to be silently skipped.

EXPECTED RESULT

All conversations from the Messaging app should appear in the KDE Connect SMS
app on the desktop.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Phone:
OS: GrapheneOS 17
KDE Connect Android: 1.35.17

Desktop:
Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS
KDE Conntect 23.08.5
KDE Framework 5.115.0
QT 5.15.13

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This is not an RCS issue (GrapheneOS Messaging does not support RCS). SMS
permission is fully granted ("Allow"). Force-stopping the KDE Connect app on
the phone does not resolve it. Clearing desktop-side ~/.cache/kdeconnect.sms
does not resolve it. Battery optimization is set to Unrestricted.
