Grim E. Ton <[email protected]> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |[email protected] --- Comment #6 from Grim E. Ton <[email protected]> --- I run into the same "issue" on 26.08.1. What happens is the following: Dolphin has two categories in its sidebar: "Devices" and "Removable Devices". When you mount an encrypted drive then you will see: Under section "Removable Devices": The display name which is the label of the luks encryption that resides inside the partition of the device, e.g.: "mylukslabel" in partition one on sdc (/dev/sdc1). Running blkid on /dev/sdc1 would give you something like this: # blkid /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdc1: UUID="luks-uuid" LABEL="mylukslabel" TYPE="crypto_LUKS" PARTLABEL="somepartitionlabel" PARTUUID="somepartitionuuid" On mouseover you're shown the mount point and the device name of the partition that is encrypted. In our example it shows: /run/media/$user/myfilesystemlabel (from /dev/sdc1) x TiB free of y TiB (zz% used) Interestingly the mount point is the filesystem's label and not the luks label. Under section "Devices": The display name is the filesystem label. Running blkid on the open luks device (/dev/dm-1) would show you: # blkid /dev/dm-1 /dev/dm-1: Label="myfilesystemlabel" UUID="filesystem-uuid" BLOCK_SIZE="4096" TYPE="xfs" On mouseover it shows: /run/media/$user/myfilesystemlabel (from /dev/dm-1) x TiB free of y TiB (zz% used) Somehow Dolphin draws the connection between /dev/sdc1 and the filesystem label so that it's mounted under the filesystem label's name. When you click "Eject" on the device in the "Removable Devices" section it unmounts the filesystem and closes the luks device as it should be. But, when you click on "Eject" in the "Devices" section, Dolphin only unmounts the filesystem and leaves the device mapper alone. A click on the "Eject" button in the "Removable Devices" section now becomes useless because Dolphin checks if the device is mounted, which it isn't and then displays an error message (not mounted) and aborts. You can also tell by the color of the locks that are displayed besides the names. When the luks device is closed, the locks are green, when it's opened the locks are orange. Unmounting only the filesystem leaves the locks orange. IMHO the "Eject" button should always shut everything down and make it so that you can safely remove the device. Umount filesystem, close device mapper, send standby command to disk for it to spin down. I also think that Dolphin should not show both devices, e.g. /dev/sdc1 and /dev/dm-1. As it is able to draw the connection between the underlying device /dev/sdc1 and the decrypted filesystem, the whole constellation should only show up once. Anything else is just confusing. There should also be an option to just unmount the filesystem or to close the luks device w/o sending the drive to standby. E.g. if you copy stuff over from the filesystem and then repartition the drive with a new fs. Now you'd have to eject the drive in dolphin, pull the plug, put it back in, so that it spins back up again and then repartition it. Maybe that could live in the right click menu or in KDE's partition manager. KR, G. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
