--- Comment #16 from Méven <[email protected]> ---
Git commit 8eccc4cfd61878f5ff4ca9985ebfc21dcf049d42 by Méven Car.
Committed on 12/10/2026 at 09:11.
Pushed by meven into branch 'master'.

Open With: remember an unknown file under a type made for its extension

A file that the system knows no type for is application/octet-stream.
Ticking "Remember application association" for such a file in the
Open With dialog made the application the default for every file of no
known type. It also made the application a choice for nearly every
other type, as they all inherit application/octet-stream. Users then
saw an application such as Okular or a game opening every unknown file.

For a single file of no known type, the dialog now offers to remember
the association for its extension. On accept, KIO defines the type
application/x-extension-<extension> in the user's MIME database, as
GLib does with the same name and file, and associates the application
with this type. Without an extension, there is no checkbox.
