If you want to keep the workspace layout, you need to save it: Menu > View > Save Layout. Kdenlive saves the layout upon exiting, though. What you have in mind is - I think - a persistent layout per session, so that you can start in Logging, move to Editing and make changes to the layout, move to Color or Audio, and when moving back top Editing restore the layout you had before you moved Color or Audio.
