I don't know about HTML (don't use it), but i would suggest to look for the
cause not in HTML but long texts generally.
Because I can confirm the behaviour with long (plain text) messages. And QT6 is
also affected.

The longer the email content, the more likely kmail komposer freezes during
drafting/editing such an email.
And the longer the email, the longer the freezes.
plaintext can have 18kB in basically every third email I draft and can
sometimes reach 30kB and more.
Generally speaking, such amounts of text - even when rendered graphically with
coloring (quotes) and line breaks etc - should be no real challenge for modern
computing and definitively not lead to a freezing UI.

But Kmail definitively freezes. Even with plaintext mail. Can't share the
actual messages because they're confidential but I should be possible to
reproduce with generated text.

Currently I run the configuration below, but I experienced these freezes also
with prior versions.

I am running more and more into this issue as longer emails keep getting more
usual to my day to day business (compared to maybe 3, 5 or even 10 years ago).
