DESCRIPTION
The whole session freezes after i915 GPU hang in plasmashell while the task
manager tooltip shows a live window thumbnail of a newly opened window.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Pin a Chromium-based PWA (here: Brave Origin app such as Outlook Web or
Proton Mail) to the Icons-Only Task Manager.
2. Launch it by clicking the task manager entry and keep the mouse over the
panel, so the tooltip with the live window thumbnail is shown.
3. Within a second or two after the window appears, quick-tile it with
Meta+Left.
4. Repeat (close and relaunch) if it does not trigger immediately.
OBSERVED RESULT
The screen freezes mid-animation. Keyboard and mouse have no effect, switching
to a VT (Ctrl+Alt+F3) does not work either. Magic SysRq (S, U, B) still works
and reboots the machine.
Reproduced three times on 2026-10-15: twice on the first attempt, once after
about 11 launches in quick succession. All three show the identical hang
signature (ecode 12:1:85dffffb), each time in a QSGRenderThread belonging to
plasmashell (thread id confirmed via ps -eLo pid,tid,comm before the second
freeze: TID 3128 → plasmashell PID 2565).
EXPECTED RESULT
The thumbnail is shown or fails gracefully, a GPU context reset in plasmashell
should not take down the whole session.
