Plasma 6.8.0 / KWin 6.8.0, Wayland, kernel 7.2.7. Single display, so no cross-monitor component. Symptoms were not corruption: (1) desktop and lock-screen wallpaper render black after login (correct after a plasmashell restart, black again on reboot); (2) client windows stop updating until resized or maximized (a GTK4 terminal froze until maximized); (3) hover highlights take seconds to start working. No KWin or plasmashell errors logged. Dropping `KWIN_DRM_DEVICES` (Intel renders and scans out directly) makes every symptom go away.
