Bug ID: 527403
Summary: baloo_file_extractor repeatedly crashes
Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
Product: frameworks-baloo
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: Baloo File Daemon
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
baloo_file_extractor repeatedly crashes on boot (see "case 1") and sometimes on
specific tools run (see "case 2").
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Case 1:
1. Start my system
2. Log in to start a Plasma 6.8 Wayland session
3. The crashes begin automatically
- Not sure of the exact steps because it's automatic.
Case 2:
1. Run some tool (I'm working on a CMake project, so I was to run `cmake
--build`)
2. The tool works as normal, but system notifies that baloo_file_extractor just
crashed
- The crash dump generated in these two recipes looked just identical. So I
guess is the same issue.
OBSERVED RESULT
Case 1: Over an indeterminate period of time (can be a few minutes), it crashes
again and again, then suddenly it stops on its own.
Case 2: Crashes 1~2 times per tool execution.
EXPECTED RESULT
This never happened back with Plasma 6.7.5. I just updated to 6.8 and the
crashes began after the very first reboot.

[What I do now]
Since this can be annoying, a workaround is taken to stop the auto-crash:
1. `balooctl6 suspend` (stops the crashing for now)
1. `systemctl --user edit kde-baloo`
2. Insert content:
```systemd
[Service]
Environment="QT_QPA_PLATFORM=offscreen"
```
3. Save; Systemd reloads
4. `systemctl --user restart kde-baloo`
5. (check:) `systemctl --user show kde-baloo --property=Environment | grep
'QT_QPA_PLATFORM'` ("Environment=QT_QPA_PLATFORM=offscreen" seen in the output)
My thinking was: I don't know, but if the crashing process is a background
task, why must it `init_platform` for (maybe) Wayland? Maybe I can force it to
render whatever it's trying, off the screen. And hey, it turns out working.
