DESCRIPTION
After updating my openSUSE Tumbleweed system to Plasma 6.8, brightness control
via the brightness applet or the hardware keys does not work anymore on an
Intel-based Dell 7430 laptop.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot into Plasma
2. Press Fn + one of the two brightness keys, or use the slider in the
brightness applet
OBSERVED RESULT
If using the brightness keys, the brightness adjustment overlay appears on
screen and the value increases or decreases by 5%, but the screen brightness
remains fixed.
EXPECTED RESULT
The screen brightness changes.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): openSUSE Tumbleweed
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This does not happen on my other AMD-based laptop running the same OS & Plasma
version. I know that recently there have been some brightness bugs in the Linux
kernel, but I do not think this is one of them, as I've only faced it since
updating to Plasma 6.8 and reverting to an older kernel does not help.
I am attaching a full journalctl log, where I noticed some suspect lines that
are printed each time I adjust the backlight via the hardware keys:
