Bug ID: 527522
Summary: Configurable default placement (left/right) for new
displays
Classification: Plasma
Product: KScreen
Version First 6.3.6
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: common
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
When a new screen is first plugged in it will always be appended to the right.
There is no way to change that default behavior.
In the context of flex office where a laptop often gets plugged into new docks
and where the laptop is physically to the right of the secondary display, the
lack of customization means that the display position must be set manually each
time a new dock is used.
Having a global option where we can set the preferred position or even
direction for new displays would save quite some time.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plugin unknown screen
2. New screen gets appended to the right
OBSERVED RESULT
No way to change default behavior without scripting.
Time wasted having to reconfigure each time a new screen is plugged in.
EXPECTED RESULT
Configure once the default placement for a new screen.
Whenever a new screen is plugged in it gets appended to the preferred
location/direction.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 13
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.12.107+deb13-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I know it's a bit of a niche problem to have, but I had the same issue back in
windows land. Would be great for KDE to be better in that regard.
