--- Comment #2 from cwo <[email protected]> ---
This works in 6.8.0 on Fedora. (--class is also unnecessary and does not seem
to do anything on Wayland).

I can reproduce it in a VM on Arch.

The difference is that Firefox sets a window class (in kwindowprop terms,
'resourceName') of "firefox", in addition to the name (in kwindowprop terms
'resourceClass'), which is set to whatever the --name argument specifies. This
window class/resourceName is not overwritten by the --class argument, if any. I
can reproduce the same behavior of firefox on Plasma/kwin 6.7, so this does not
seem to have changed.

On Arch, the Firefox .desktop file contains the line

StartUpWMClass=firefox

If this line is present in a .desktop file and the window class/resourceName is
present on a window, it will match that window to this .desktop file. On
Fedora, this line is not there, so it works.

I tested it by copying the .desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications and
removing that line, and the window was no longer matched to this .desktop file.

I'm not sure if matching on this field is correct behavior, and why it seems to
have worked for you in the past - Arch does not seem to have recently added
this line..
