That was fixed by https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kguiaddons/-/merge_requests/228, which is in KDE Frameworks 6.30: the PNG that Spectacle already encoded is now sent as is. The background-mode case from comment 4, where Spectacle quit before Klipper had read the image, was fixed by https://invent.kde.org/plasma/spectacle/-/merge_requests/534 in Plasma 6.6.5 (see bug 512183). I can't reproduce it anymore on current git master with large full-screen captures taken with spectacle -b.
