Bug ID: 528080
Summary: Support auto locale generation on Arch from language
Classification: Applications
Product: systemsettings
Version First 6.8.2
Reported In:
Platform: CachyOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: kcm_regionandlang
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
Changing the language through the system settings fails to apply correctly on
CachyOS and likely other Arch-based distros too.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. On CachyOS, go to System Settings -> Region&Language->Language and change
the (list of) prefered languages.
2. Press apply
OBSERVED RESULT
Error message: "Locale has been configured, but this KCM currently doesn't
support auto locale generation on your system, please refer to your
distribution's manual to install fonts and generate locales"
Translations aren't available to apps so they continue using wrong texts.
Steps to do it manually are documented at
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Locale.
EXPECTED RESULT
No error, and after a restart both KDE and third-party apps use the correct
language. Maybe a sudo prompt for locale-gen.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: CachyOS Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.12.0
Can someone please confirm if this reproduces on other arch-based distros?
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Does not depend on which language is chosen.
