The command line work-around I reported does not work for Wayland and I've not been able (so far) to find a Wayland compatible command line solution to this. Wayland also continues to not be happy with my display... This is a blocker for me moving to Wayland from X11 since using the trackpoint without triggering random behaviour via the touchpad is difficult.
