DESCRIPTION
Long delays confirming more than 50 photo identities from Unconfirmed category.
Using external mariaDB for the database. Went through tuning steps. mariaDB is
performing well with no bottlenecks. However, Digikam is taking a long time to
return to the UI for the next input. I ran a sample process and asked ChatGPT
to analyze. The findings it made are as follows after Digikam pegged the system
CPU utilization at over 500% for 50 photos.
This is the important part:
- digiKam receives an image-change notification.
- Its item-filter model is invalidated.
- Qt recalculates sorting and filtering.
- digiKam repeatedly compares image categories and face-tag information.
- This work is happening on the main UI thread.
In other words, digiKam is busy rebuilding or re-evaluating its image
presentation after face changes, rather than simply waiting for MariaDB.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Recognize large number of photos for create unconfirmed identities
2. Select an individual with 50 or more images to be confirmed.
3. Click confirm. It takes an inordinate amount of time for the UI to refresh
the thumbnails during which Digikam appears to be using a lot of overhead in
the screen redraw process.
OBSERVED RESULT
Long delays in being able to confirm a large number of photos. Also, the
thumbnail page randomly comes back at a different place rather than positioning
itself at the next name with photos to be confirmed. The entire repainting of
the screen is a huge bottleneck.
EXPECTED RESULT
Faster return and repainting of the thumbnail page with other people to be
confirmed.
