Cursor ghosting/tearing
DESCRIPTION
On Desktop running an RTX 2060 Super and the motherboards Intel UDH 630, one
monitor (HDMI) is plugged into the iGPU and the other 3 monitors are plugged
into the RTX 2060 Super. On the iGPU output only, there are stale cursor
images and torn, thin vertical slivers of the cursor are left on screen after
moving the mouse quickly. Worth noting, this is reproducible by just scrolling
really fast. However, moving the mouse is the most reliable way to reproduce.
The artifacting/torn cursor shows over applications and on the bare desktop on
the monitor connected to the iGPU. Pressing Print Screen makes them disappear
instantly.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. One monitor is on the iGPU and others on Nvidia GPU
2. Move the mouse quickly (circles, zig zags, etc)
3. Stale cursor ghosts /sliver fragments appear and stay until something forces
a repaint.
OBSERVED RESULT
Leftover cursor images, torn into vertical slice,s sometimes at different sizes
in the same capture. Only occurs on the iGPU output. Print Screen clears them
EXPECTED RESULT
Only the one real cursor is shown, no leftovers
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a
terminal window): Bazzite 45 (Kinoite), images 45.20261104 and 45.20261105
(both are affected)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.8.2 (kwin 6.8.2-2 and 6.8.2-3 both affected)
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.31.0
Qt Version: 6.11.2
Also noting -> Wayland session, kernel 7.2.15-ogc.1.1.fc45, Nvidia 615.78.08
open modules, Intel UHD 630 (i915), Mesa 26.2.6
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
What I have tested:
Same monitor model on an Nvidia output: clean. Both ultrawides on Nvidia:
clean
Moved my known-clean second monitor onto the iGPU output: artifacts appear. So
it follows the iGPU output, not the panel, cable, or port.
Not caused by the 2 kwin versions noted above, fractional scaling (2 of the
monitors are at 1.25 scaling), or rotation of the monitor.
No i915 errors in the kernel journal that I could see
I did not try KWIN_DRM_DEVICES as setting the Intel GPU as primary made my
Plasma login hang and hard freeze my PC. I had to restart my PC, CTRL+ALT+F3
to get into terminal and remove the change to get back in.
If any other debug logs is needed, let me know. I have attached a photo of the
behavior occurring from my phone, given print screen fixes the problem.
