I am using this card: NVIDIA Corporation GP104 [GeForce GTX 1080] (rev a1) and this drivers: $ dpkg -l | grep nvidia | tr -s ' ' ii nvidia-384 384.90-0ubuntu3.17.10.1 amd64 NVIDIA binary driver - version 384.90 Just after crashing I get this error message in dmesg: kernel: NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 31, Ch 00000020, engmask 00000101, intr 10000000 Here is description of what xid 31 means: http://docs.nvidia.com/deploy/xid-errors/index.html#topic_2 Restaring kwin in such a way: "$ kwin_x11 --replace&" helps $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
