This folder is not created by digiKam. Unless your desktop system uses this folder for cache or configuration files. It would be good if you would rename the ~/.config/digikamrc file and start with a new configuration file. At the moment I really have no idea what this behavior could trigger. It has never been reported as a bug before. The editor window is not deleted during runtime, but only "hidden". I could imagine a problem with the windowmanager from her desktop...
