What is the "new tab button"? The "+" button at the bottom left border
(vertical tabs extension)? Pasting url does not work there.
But it would be be pretty non intuitive... I used to paste urls since Netscape
4.0 by middle clicking into the page and would have never tried the (non
working) "+" button...
I tried pasting into the url text field -> not working; mixes url with existing
text; middle clicking to any other element in the url bar -> no effect.
