I have never seen the problem with the selection. The dialog is necessary, in
the current version it is also displayed here, if the renaming failed. Also,
the renaming in the current developer version has been greatly accelerated.
Your digiKam version is already quite old, can you use a more recent digiKam
version (digiKam-5.9.0)? Which Linux distribution do you use?
