With currently kopete 18.04.3 on gentoo, this can is sort of solved: animation
of systray icon working again and new message in contact list marked by
envelope symbol. The animation had been more obvious, but there's no reason to
consider this a bug anymore.
Sorry for not reporting on this for a long time, but I had stopped using kopete
for a while due to several problems.
Thanks for keeping up the great work on KDE.
