I cannot test this on Ubuntu. I did test it on CentOS 7.5 with the Mate
desktop. The error does NOT occur. I recommend closing this bug as unconfirmed.
A couple of other comments:
I noticed that the DVD was NOT ejected and reloaded between writing and
verifying. I believe this used to occur.
I _suspect_ that when the DVD was reloaded the desktop environment was set to
"autoplay" multimedia content with totem. This might have caused the conflict
with K3b.
